60 and Beyond: Fully Engaged and Living Life to the Fullest.
60 and Beyond: Fully Engaged and Living Life to the Fullest.
Facilitated by Karen Ely
Briar Patch Inn ~ Sedona, Arizona
March 23 – 25, 2012

Experiencing and living life
should become limitless when we age.
Aging should be liberating.
We no longer have the same concerns
as we had in our youth.
After middle age,
the pursuit of happiness should be our goal.
~ Shirley MacLaine

60 is not the new 50.

It is something completely different.  It is less about sticking with what you've always done and more about doing what brings you joy.  Less about safety and more about taking on a new passion . . . or revisiting one you lost along the way.

It’s about a time of seeing, probably for the first time, how precious time is . . . and how quickly it’s moving.  Of understanding you’re not too old to start a new life.  That if you’ve always wanted to write, then you should write.  If you’ve always wanted to paint or learn a musical instrument, then you should do it.  It is finally time to do what brings you joy.

If you can see 60 on the horizon . . . or you’re already in your 60’s, 70’s or 80’s, it is definitely not too late to create the life you’ve always imagined.  Join me and a community of women who are interested in going into 60 and Beyond wide awake, fully engaged, and living life to the fullest.

We’ll spend the weekend walking quietly in nature, sitting joyfully in circle, journaling, meditating, working experientially in small and large groups, laughing, crying, eating chocolate mindfully . . . and in the process finding the direction for a fully-alive new life and a deeper sense of meaning.

This weekend retreat will be held at the beautiful Briar Patch Inn, nestled in Oak Creek Canyon, just a few moments north of Sedona along the lush banks of Oak Creek.  Located at the base of the surrounding red rock mountains, the spring fed waters of Oak Creek create a healing, magical oasis- a quiet blending of beauty, serenity. majestic canyon oaks, dappled sunlight, squirrels, sheep, and a caring staff.

Light on the Path: Finding Tranquility, Clarity & Meaning on The Camino
Light on the Path: Finding Tranquility, Clarity & Meaning on The Camino
Béduer, France
May 31 –June 8, 2012

People walk The Camino for a variety of reasons . . . to be part of an ancient tradition . . .to feel close to nature . . . to search for meaning, authenticity, a rekindled sense of wonder . . . to renew faith, or to find it . . . to celebrate or mourn a passage in their lives.

The Santiago de Compostella Camino (often referred to as The Camino) throughout history has enticed countless illustrious pilgrims from all over Europe to take up the trail. It is an ancient - and often enchanted - pilgrimage. People from Saint Francis of Assisi and Charlemagne to Ferdinand and Isabella to Dante and Chaucer have taken the journey, which comprises a nearly 500-mile trek across highways, mountains, cities and fields.

Now it’s our turn.

Beginning and ending our journey at Mas de Carrié, an ancient estate overlooking the Célé river valley in mid-Southern France, we’ll walk five days of the ancient pilgrims' path (approximately 45 miles), visiting sanctuaries from the Middle Ages, and deeply experiencing the magic of this ancient tradition.  We’ll walk in silence, we’ll sing in joy, we’ll share meals and tears and laughter and insights and in the process we’ll come to “see” with new eyes and find the tools needed to move powerfully back into our life with a deeper sense of joy and an enlivened sense of being.

This retreat offers the unique opportunity to step back from your busy life for eight days of quiet contemplation, intentional living, and conscious activity in a community of like-minded women.  Over the eight days, you will gently get back in touch with yourself and the still, small voice within you that whispers the truth. Through the beauty of nature, silence, walking, journaling, laughter, large and small group exercises, and ceremony, you will rekindle a quiet sense that anything is possible.

My Mother ~ My Daughter ~ My Self
My Mother ~ My Daughter ~ My Self
Facilitated by Karen Ely and April Ely
October 12 – 14, 2012
Chatham, Cape Cod

I love you.  I love you not.

Sometimes she’s the last person you want to see . . . but the first one you call for advice.  That’s the seesaw of feelings between mothers and daughters.  And something every mother and daughter can relate to.

When you're five, she's a goddess. When you’re thirteen, she often becomes the most out-of-touch creature on the planet, and you can't get far enough away from her. Your primary form of interaction for the next five years or so is one word . . . "Mooooooooooooommmmmmm!"

And then, somewhere between your twenties and your thirties, if you're lucky, she becomes your friend again.
This retreat invites mothers and daughters to share beautiful and insightful experiences together: walks on the beach, meditation, small and large group exercises, quiet reflection, laughter, tears, chocolate and healthy meals . . . all surrounded by the nourishing beauty of the Cape Cod coast.

Through guided exercises, joyful play, and quiet introspection, we will explore trust, instinct, self-confidence, boundaries, and respect.  You will be working, at times, in groups of just mothers and just daughters, as well as together.  You will leave the weekend with a better understanding of yourself and the special bond you share as mother and daughter.  This retreat is for mothers and their daughters over 21 years old.

Chatham is considered to be Cape Cod's most beautiful walking Village, often referred to as the "Nantucket of Cape Cod."  Our retreat venue, Harbor View Cottage, offers tranquil, beautiful grounds and stunning saltwater views of one of Chatham’s spectacular ocean harbor inlets.  Located just a short distance from Chatham Village and Hardings Beach, ranked by National Geographic Traveler as one of the top ten beaches in the U.S., it offers all the grace and nostalgia of a uniquely preserved former era.  The perfect place to get away from it all ~ and deeply connect with each other.
